Alopecia is a disease that causes areas of baldness and hair loss to develop anywhere on the body. It is commonly found on the scalp, beard area, eyebrows, and eyelashes. Alopecia causes the body to attack its hair follicles and is often caused by psychological stress and illness.
There are many forms of alopecia, however, the two most common are alopecia areata and alopecia tatalis. Both types are unpredictable, with hair occasionally growing back without any treatments. However, in these cases, the hair that grows back may continue to fall out.
Hair loss can be upsetting as most people consider their hair an important part of their physical appearance. Here at Omniya, we offer a range of treatments to improve the appearance of hair loss, helping you to immediately feel like yourself again.
Several conditions can cause alopecia, with anemia, protein deficiency, and thyroid issues being the most common causes. Chemotherapy is also a recognised cause of alopecia, with other medications causing similar symptoms.
Emotional and physical stress is also known to cause a particular type of alopecia known as alopecia telogen effluvium. This type of alopecia occurs when stress prevents the hair from growing, causing it to fall out.
The symptoms of alopecia are similar for both men and women.
In men, the first signs of alopecia occur around the hairline, with the hair beginning to recede at the forehead and side temporal regions. Women can also suffer hair loss at the front of the hairline, along with hair thinning.
The disease can also be noticed through sudden losses of round or oval-shaped patches of hair around the body.
At Omniya, we are proud to offer some of the best hair transplant services available to our patients. Using FUE hair transplants, we can use your hair follicles to renew bald patches and areas with no previous hair growth. FUE hair transplants offer a permanent solution to hair loss, the results appearing within 6-12 months after the surgery.
With numerous successful hair transplants completed, our specialists can work closely with you to ensure that your procedure is completed quickly and successfully.
During your one-on-one consultation, our expert clinicians will discuss the different treatment options available. Our team will create a tailored treatment plan by assessing your current circumstances and medical history.
Alopecia for both male and female (pattern hair loss) are both hereditary and caused by inherited genes. For men, genes can come from one or both parents, and in women, due to their higher levels of oestrogen, if only one parent carries the gene they are unlikely to be affected.
However, other forms of thinning hair such as stress related hair loss are not hereditary.
Alopecia can happen at any age! 30% in their thirties are bald.
Some men experience alopecia at 16, and are almost entirely bald by the time they reach their early twenties.
However, typically, male pattern baldness tends to develop slowly though so whilst it may start in the early 30’s, and it may even take 20+ years to lose all hair.
Sadly, yes, and this can affect both men and women.
Any female can be impacted by hair loss. However, it is usually more common in:
It can take from one year up to 18 months for the hair to grow fully and the best results achieved.
Your doctor may advise or prescribe ‘maintenance’ medication.
Successful hair transplants provide a permanent head of hair which will continue to grow, making them appear very natural.
Female hormones decrease at this time meaning the ratio between male and female hormones in the body alters (hair loss is triggered by the male hormones).
